For this week's blog, I want to discuss Diigo, PowerPoint, and technology and teacher professional development!
In EME2040, we have been using Diigo for a few weeks now. It has been very useful! I have learned how to highlight and annotate articles and websites, share them with a group, and comment on my peers' posts! Right now, I am working on a research paper for another class, and I have been using these tools in that process as well! In the future, I can use Diigo in a group of fellow teachers to share useful teaching materials! I can also use this in my own teaching planning process, to save and annotate lesson examples!
Next, I want to talk about PowerPoint. PowerPoint is a very useful tool in the classroom. It has lots of flexibility. It can be made very visually engaging, or interactive. It can be useful for presentations and review sessions, to help students remember and understand the material. It can be used to present quiz questions, discussion questions, a jeopardy review game, or really anything to get students to think critically and apply, analyze, and evaluate learned material. It can also be used as a tool for a project, so students can create a really cool presentation that shows what they have learned in class. These are just a few examples! The possibilities are endless, really!
Last, I want to talk about technology and teacher professional development. As new technology is developed, it is very important that teachers stay up to date on all of the potential resources that are out there. This is a huge part of teacher professional development, as technology is a huge part of society today. New technology not only helps students stay engaged, but it provides many more educational opportunities in the classroom so that students can get a better understanding of the material. I did some research and found a website that instructors can use to stay updated on technology trends. The website I found shares new technologies and how you can use them, as well as how to effectively implement already existing technologies into the classroom! Check it out!
