Blog Journal 5

This week's blog will be about Diigo, blogging, and Web 2.0!

So for those of you that may not know what Diigo is, it is an online platform to assist you in creating your own library.  With Diigo, you can bookmark, highlight, and annotate articles and share them with peers or groups!  I had never even heard of this program before EME2040, but I've enjoyed using it a lot.  It is free, easy to use (with a Diigo extension you can add to your Chrome browser), and super helpful.  I like how you can view comments and highlights from people in your groups, as well as share articles to a group.  The only thing I didn't really like about it was all of the clutter that was there before from all the "Getting Started" pages in the library, but, it was an easy fix, and helped me to find my way around the software a bit better!

I also wanted to give you an update on my experience with blogging.  So, this is the first blog I've ever kept, and I think it has been pretty good.  I like the freedom and flexibility that it gives me.  I like that I can be creative with my page.  I also like that people reading my blog have the opportunity to comment and give me feedback on my posts.  One thing I've learned about blogging that I am not particularly fond of would be that it is pretty time-consuming.  Keeping my blog updated at least once a week is quite a task for a college student.  However, I have learned that it is definitely worth it.  It allows me to reflect on things we are learning in my EME2040 class, and really just let go and write.  Because it's my personal blog, it's my personal voice, and there isn't this pressure of creating some persona for myself, because it's just me.  Plain and simple.

Last, I want to share with you a Web 2.0 tool that could be very useful for teaching.  That tool is called Animoto.  Animoto is a creative web-based tool that allows someone to communicate ideas or information through visuals and audio.  Users get to create professional-looking videos with pictures, videos, text, and music.  It is really simple to use and gives users tons of freedom to create really whatever they wish with the software.  This software could be used by a teacher in lieu of a powerpoint or presentation tool of that nature, or as a medium for a student project.  Here is a link to the Animoto website!
